Care Guide

Thank you for shopping with Hawkinsport and we want you to be happy with the purchases you have made.

The following information details the best way to look after your purchases, but ALWAYS read the washing instructions in the garment.

CLOTHING

Fabric Conditioner

We advise against the use of fabric conditioner on any of our products.  Fabric conditioner is a rinsing agent and once used it damages the yarns within the fabric causing pilling and misshaping. Fabric conditioner also rinses off any protective coatings such as Teflon, therefore degrading the fabric further. It also contains a bleaching agent, which initially makes the garment appear brighter, but in fact removes colour over time causing fading.

Tumble Drying

Tumble drying should also be avoided particularly with knitwear, skirts and any sportswear terms with a transfer print.

Knitwear

We recommend that you wash knitwear inside out, avoid fabric conditioner and do not tumble dry. Please do not iron knitwear as this will make it stretch and go shiny.

Skirts, Kilts & Pinafores

These should be hung to dry immediately after washing and should not be tumble-dried.  Skirts have all been through permanent pleat process which sets the pleats - use of fabric conditioner causes the pleats to become less crisp & the heat from the tumble dryer will also remove pleats over time.

Sportswear

Our performance sportswear dries very quickly without the need to tumble dry. Please avoid tumble drying or ironing anything with a transfer as this can cause the print to peel. Games socks should be air dried rather than tumble dried.

Velcro

Never wash a garment with its Velcro unfastened. The material is abrasive and can cause damage to other items of clothing.

Vinyl print on stretchy fabrics

Due to the stretch of the fabric of many garments, the vinyl is liable to crack and peel off. We are happy to reapply new print to the garment.

OTHER ITEMS -

Book bags, Games Bags & Holdalls should be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

PILLING AND BOBBLING

Knitted goods are prone to pilling. The main reason is friction or rubbing against another object and this does not necessarily mean that the garment is faulty or of poor quality. Pilling can be caused by any of the following:-

External friction i.e. movement against another fabric or object; Heat generated by the individual when the garment is worn; Washing the garment at the incorrect temperature and/or with other fabrics that will rub against the garment; Tumble drying the garment at too high a temperature, which causes the heat to draw out the fibre.

Some garments appear to have 'fluffed up' after a short period of wear and this is due to surface fibre from the yarn coming to the surface. The yarn in these cases is slightly hairier than usual and the hairs disappear after a period of wear and washing. This is similar to a carpet, where when first laid, the loose fibres come to the surface and are vacuumed away. If the fibres do not wash away, various devices can be used to remove the excess fibre to enhance the look of the garment. Once the fibre is removed the garment is unlikely to pill again. Check that bags and outerwear do not have any exposed Velcro fastenings which may cause damage to garments worn beneath them.

Our advice: we find that the best solution is to turn garments inside out when washing. When pilling occurs it should settle down after washing a number of times; however, if pilling is excessive, please feel free to return to us for inspection.

The Carboflex range is Tecnifibre’s flagship squash racket range and has been used by many of the world’s best players since its introduction in 2004, where Thierry Lincou and Vanessa Atkinson took the World Championship and reached world number 1 in their first season with the racket. Today Mohamed El Shorbagy and Nour El Sherbini are just a few of the world’s top players using the racket.

The revolutionary monoshaft design provides the player with the perfect combination of power and control. The Carboflex range has continuously been improved and now in its seventh generation we have one of the greatest evolutions with inspiration coming from professional players to make it still the best monoshaft racket on the market today.

The 2022 Carboflex range gets its name from the breakthrough innovation from Tecnifibre called X-Top, inspired by Mohamed El Shorbagy. A patented technology allows the removal of the bumper’s plastic inactive material at the top of the racket, and instead to use 100% active fibre. No bumper = More active fibres = 100% performance! More Resistance, More Speed, More Power, More Reactivity, More Playability.

Aramid fibres (the same materials used in bulletproof vests) are used at the top of the racket for maximum shock resistance, along with a PTFE (Teflon) treatment increasing the sliding on wall/floor contact for maximum abrasion resistance. The new mix of materials provides even more resistance than a traditional bumper.

With no bumper and integrated grommets, a perfectly sleek frame design allows for greater racket acceleration and better gliding on the wall for extraordinary swing speed. The removal of the plastic bumper also reduces vibrations for more comfort.

The X-Top range is equipped with the same technologies that made its predecessor – the Airshaft range – so popular. The Airshaft section provides a sharpened frame geometry for a more dynamic response and greater swing speed. The shaft design is strengthened through X-Arms technology for greater racket stability and improving aerodynamics whilst adding minimal weight. There are 12 enlarged string holes at specific locations on the frame (3, 9 and 12 o’clock) to encourage the movement of the strings, improving the tolerance of the racket for an enhanced sweet spot, allowing the player to generate more power, and increasing the effect/cut the player can put on the ball.

A unique benefit of Tecnifibre squash rackets is that they come pre-strung in a Tecnifibre string. Tecnifibre have been at the forefront of squash strings since 1980 and have been used by the world’s top players both then and now. The Carboflex range (excluding the junior racket) come pre-strung in Tecnifibre’s latest premium squash string – Dynamix VP. Polyamide fibres are upgraded with a vapor process that steams the material for higher elasticity, allowing the player to generate more power. This combined with Tecnifibre’s exclusive PU 400 production, which gives the string a 400% elasticity factor, makes Dynamix VP Tecnifibre’s most powerful squash string.

The Carboflex X-Top range is designed with an elegant all-white design with eye-catching colours on the brand name and the exciting new X-Top technology. 3D decals on the shaft gives the racket a premium, tactile finish. The racket also comes with a Tecnifibre squash dry grip and a full cover.
